Steve Davis was a dominant force during the early years when snooker became a major television game. He was a six time world champion and won many ranking event titles. He is one of the most popular and accomplished snooker players of all time and is also a keen poker player. Davis is also the author of several books that cover his career and his position as director at WPBSA. His work as a television commentator/director of the Cue Zone Into Schools program has helped to increase his wealth.

In 1978, Steve Davis was 17 years old when he became a professional. He made his debut at a ranking competition, the Pontin Open. Tony Meo beat Davis. Davis won several titles during his first season in professional golf, including three B&H Masters wins at Wembley.

After a slow start to his professional career, Davis regained his status as the world's best snooker player. He won five world titles and the 1989 Triple Crown. He was also among the first players to win both a UK Championship as well as a world championship. He also won many other tournaments in the 1980s.

During the 1990s, Davis' dominance began to wane and he lost a number of records to Stephen Hendry. He also lost in World Championship to Jimmy White. This saw him drop to number two in official rankings. Ronnie O'Sullivan lost his 1997 title to Davis, and Davis was unable again to defend it. This loss led to his slipping out of the top 16 rankings for the first time in many years.

Davis showed signs of improvement after a slow start to the second season. He reached the quarter-finals of both the Shanghai Masters and the Grand Prix. He was also named BBC Sports Person of the year in 1988. He received the OBE in 2001 for his services to snooker. He's also an avid poker player, and hosts a weekly radio program on Phoenix FM. In 2010, he was his 30th appearance at The Crucible.

Davis was still at the top of the world rankings the following season. He won many ranking events titles and reached to the final at the Welsh Open. His greatest achievement was the fact that he managed to remain in top 16 at his 50th Birthday. He was also an active participant in the PTC circuit, winning the 2012 PTC Masters. He was one of three players to reach the PTC quarter-finals consecutively in a single season.
