The official snooker rankings system is an official listing that ranks players based their recent performance. It is administered and maintained by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. This listing is updated following each event in the ranking series. A current snooker ranking is required in order to be eligible to participate on the World Snooker Tour. The seeding of players is based on how they perform in certain tournaments and their ranking.
The first two years of the snooker ranking were based on three World Championships results: the World Open Championship, UK Championship Championship, and Professional Players Tournament. Each of these events gave one seed to the winner, while the runners-ups received two. From 1976 through 1982, the World Championship was a ranking event. The International Open in 1982 became the fourth ranking tourney. As the competition grew, more tournaments were introduced.
The World Championship saw the return of the knockout format. This was considered the start of modern snooker. Most records are now based on records that date back to 1969. The current snooker World Ranking List has 31 titles.
Ray Reardon was the undisputed leader of the snooker game in the 1970s. He was the World Champion and won six Welsh amateur titles. He won 1974's World Championship, which was the first ranking competition. He held the record for most ranking titles until Steve Davis broke it in 1998. However, he subsequently retired from snooker.
Stephen Hendry, one of 1990's most dominant players, was a great example of this. He held the number 1-ranked position for eight years and claimed seven World Titles during that period. He is now tied with Ronnie O'Sullivan in the all-time rankings. He will retire from snooker following the 2012 championships.
Judd Trump is currently the world ranking snooker champ. Among his other achievements, he is the snooker player of the year. He has not yet been able to take the top spot. He was just one point behind Mark Williams at the start of 2019. Both players will compete in the finals the 2020 UK Championships and Cazoo Masters.
Another big player in the rankings is Kyren Wilson. He is a Premier League specialist. He is a sports tipster who enjoys playing in both the NBA and MLB. He enjoys playing the NFL and MLB. In the last two seasons, he won four ranking finals and suffered two losses.
Mark Selby, four-time World Champion, has been defeated in the World Championship semi-finals. Selby has also had to deal with some high-profile failures throughout his career.
The fourth Indian Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament is scheduled for September 12-16 in Visakhapatnam (India). A number of celebrities will be watching the action. Entry to the event is free.
