You can find many different parts in pool tables. The table has a multilayered table top, which is then covered with billiard paper. Some people prefer different colors of cloth to be on their pool tables. This allows you to create a personalized experience. It also ensures that the playing surface is smooth.
Slate is the first piece of a pool table. The table's surface is made of slate, a heavy-milled rock. Most pool tables are made with 3/4" or 1 inch slate. It is worth checking the size of the table before you buy.
Another important component of the pool table is its rails. Rails can either be made of synthetic materials or natural ging. They provide support to your table and are glued onto the slate. Sometimes, the rail can be made from solid wood. Other materials include plywood and fiberboard.
Cushions protect rails and prevent them getting damaged. Cushions are made out of either cloth or vulcanized plastic. These cushions are interchangeable with rails.

The toprail is a shorter rail attached to the top end of the table. Side rails are shorter than the top rail and extend the length of the table. Cross beams can also add strength. A transition plate is often installed between the rails and the slate. A transition plate makes the table stronger.
The bottom rail is located at the foot of the table. The rail apron is a horizontal timber that is used to add support to the rails. Bed shelf provides another support. Both of these support are made from solid wooden pieces. Post legs are ideal legs.
Corner pockets can be described as holes in the corners. The angle of entry to the corner pockets is 142deg (+/-1deg). The minimum opening width of the corner pocket can be 4-7/8 inches and maximum 5 1/8.
The horizontal line that runs horizontally across the middle of the table is the head string. The head string begins at the point where the second side pocket diamond is located. A player can however draw a line on the cloth marking the beginning of the head string.
The foot spot is located at one end of the table. When a shooter breaks from the ball, the foot spot is the place the ball will land. It also houses the nameplate.

Check the thickness of the slate when buying a new pool deck. The slate should measure 1". Many dealers sell tables that have 7/8" slate. Though they will cost less, you do not receive the accuracy of a 1" slate.
The cloth on your pool table is another important part. Modern billiard fabric is usually made from a combination of synthetic nylon, natural wool, and synthetic polyester. Billiard felt can also be part of the cloth. Some players prefer a certain color of cloth. However, it should still be durable and smooth. You should brush the cloth at least once a month to maintain its quality.
