Breaking the Crucible Record in Snooker

pool vs billiards

When you're playing snooker, you probably have heard the term'maximum break'. The maximum break in a frame is the highest. A player could break the maximum by potting all 15 of the reds or all 15 blacks in a single frame for 120 points. Another way to break this limit is to put all six colours into a single frame and earn 27 points.

Stephen Hendry's book 147

After breaking the world record of 147, a seven-time World Snooker champion is making headlines. The break came in seventh frame in his first round match against Stuart Bingham. The world number 1 is now defending his title, and is in line to win another major prize. Hendry however isn't convinced the extra incentive of a Crucible break of 147 is worth taking the risk.

Ronnie O'Sullivan's 147

Ronnie O'Sullivan has made 15 competitive 147 breaks. His first break was made at the 1997 World Championships at the Crucible Theatre. His latest maximum was achieved at the 2018 English Open against Allan Taylor and Elliot Slessor. This is the fastest maximum a male player has ever reached in the World Championship.

Jimmy White's No. 147

Jimmy White's 1992 break at 147 was one the most famous breaks in snooker. The British professional enjoyed a stellar career and was one the most loved snooker players ever. He won the UK Championship, Masters, and six World Championship finals. Despite his success he did not win The Crucible.

Jimmy White's 147 vs Tony Drago

Jimmy White's 147 against Tony Draga can be considered one of best billiards shots. It was hit by the former world number one in just three minutes and 31 seconds. It was the fastest century in a ranking event. Drago is a gifted player, but not without his faults. His temperament is sometimes shaky and he has played poorly against the rest.

Jimmy White's 147 against Jimmy White

A break of 147 is a great achievement in the world of table tennis. Jim White broke 147 in 1992, but few people know about it. In one of his matches against Steve Davis, White broke the reds early in the game. After that, White seemed to be on his way to reaching his career-high of147. However, on his 10th black, he faced a long pot. After kissing off the red, White decided to go for black. This win earned him PS114,000. After the match, Drago welcomed him with a warm welcome.
