The World Trick Shot Championship (WTC) is a world championship in trick shot billiards. The first edition of the competition took place in 1991 on snooker table. Matchroom Sport organised the event. Matchroom Sport organised the event. Players were evaluated on technical merit and presentation. The competition was held in 2005 at Celtic Manor.
During the 1970s, several international professional billiards players started performing trick shots. These players were awarded prizes like the World Championship of Artistic Pool, International Challenge Cup, or the Swedish Championship. Trick shot, a form of pool, is now a sanctioned sport under the World Pool-Billiard association. In addition to participating in tournaments and teaching others, trick shot artists can also be found instructing the sport.
Mike Massey has been a world-famous trick shot artist since the late 1970s. Massey has shared many games with athletes like Jason Gedrick or Paul Sorvino. Massey has been an important figure in the sport both as an instructor, and as a fundraiser. Massey's performances at the Waste Management Pheonix Open, and at the Volvo PGA at Wentworth have earned him a lot of attention.
Mike Massey has taught many professionals in the sport including Scott Baiin, Dean Cain and James Tolkan. He has participated in many international professional competitions. The team performed at both the HSBC Championships Abu Dhabi as well as the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Jim Sommer is another great trick shot artist. He has been a participant in international Trick-shot turns and has also traveled to America to compete in the US Nationals. He has won the US Nationals Artistic Pool Championship.
The World Trick Shot Artists Association, (WTSAA), is an association of trick shot artists around the world. Paul Gerni, world champion trick shot artist, is the founder of the association. The WTSAA books contains 160 tricks. These tricks include the machine gun shot and the quick-fire shot. Other tricks shots include the "pro", "extreme", and "prop" shots.
Tim "The Dragon", Chin, was the 2022 US Nationals Artistic Pool Champion. He defeated Jason "The Michigan Kid," Lynch to take the prestigious title. Both Lynch as well as Chin are WPA World Ranked. However, Chin has the advantage of being a seasoned professional, while Lynch is still a student at Ohio State.
The Trick Shot Magic competition will take place October 9-10. This competition will feature eight international stars of the sport. They will be competing for the purse of $40,000. Each player will have six to ten choices. Each player will have three chances to complete each shot after they've chosen their favorite shots. The player with the most successful shot will receive a point.
For many years, the best trick shot artist in the world was Geoff McIlroy. Noel Hunt taught him how to do trick shots. He has fallen from ladders and met people that he never thought he would meet, but he has never given up on trying.
