Peter Lines has a long history in snooker. He has reached the final of both the English Amateur Championship as well as the quarter-finals in the China Open. Since 1991, he has been a professional. In the early 1990s, his quarter-finals reached at the Strachan Open as well as the Asian Open. He qualified for the televised stages in 1998 of the World Championship.

Although his career is generally unremarkable in nature, Lines' performance during the last few decades of his career was more than admirable. For the first time in his career, he reached the top 64 of the Order of Merit, and he even made it to the quarter-finals of a ranking event. The best part of his season was his run in the German Masters. In which he reached the semifinals and almost won,

He found himself suddenly under pressure after a promising start for his 2011/12 season. As the season progressed he felt more pressure and began losing matches in his final four ranking events. He was only ranked 57th on European Tour at the end of the season. He was able, however, to get a place on the tour for an additional year.

He was able to compete in two major tournaments, defeating Joe Perry and Ian McCulloch. He also won a qualifier at the Players Tour Championships series (PTC), but it was not enough for him to be in the main tour.

He won the UK Championship in 2010, but was relegated to the PTC events again after the 2015/16 season. He continued to play in amateur tournaments as a result.

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has ruled that Lines' behaviour during a match in China was not appropriate. The World Snooker Tour received Lines' complaint. They have launched an investigation. There was a formal complaint filed by Xiao Guodong and the matter is expected to be referred directly to the World Snooker Tribunal.

The case was heard December 16th, and Lines was sentenced by the WPBSA to a $500 fine. The fine had an interesting side: Lines was found guilty for violating two rules regarding player conduct.

The first rule was that he replaced the white ball with his own after a foul-and-miss award. In this situation, professional players are not uncommon to temporarily hang up their cues. Brendan Moore, Lines’ opponent, was angry at him about this issue. Both claimed Lines made an error. Lines, however, maintained that he was right.

However, the World Snooker Tour claimed that Lines used "swear terms and intimidation" during their match. Lines threatened, likewise, to fight outside.
